Private Tennis Lessons v/s Group Tennis Lessons: Which Should you Pick?

Is your child interested in getting better at tennis and maybe even play it professionally? Well, the first of many steps that you should take is enrolling your child in a top tennis academy so that they can develop their skills and knowledge about the sport in the right way. However, there might be a question in your mind that many of us tend to have, and that is, what is the difference between private tennis lessons and group tennis lessons, and which one should you choose for your child?

Well, if you are looking for some answers then you are at the right place. In this blog, we will talk about the things to expect in both types of tennis lessons and the benefits of each so that you can make an informed decision for your child, depending on their tennis objectives.

Private tennis lessons

Private tennis lessons are considered to be the ideal way to learn tennis. As the name suggests, these are one-to-one lessons that involve the trainee and obviously, the tennis coach. Private tennis lessons typically last for an hour or so, depending upon the schedule of the coach and the goals of the trainee.

The following are some of the benefits of enrolling in a private tennis lesson.

  • Technical drills:
Private tennis lessons involve the coach teaching a number of technical drills to the trainee, especially focusing on the serve as it is one of the most important aspects of the game. All the technical drills tend to help the player get better at gripping, footwork, swing path, and finding the right balance between power and spin on their shots.
  • Tactical awareness:
The final few minutes of the lessons are usually focused on making the trainee aware of the tactical side of the game. The coach would focus on particular patterns of the play that could work in the favor of the trainee based on their skillset and whether they are an attacking baseliner, a counter-puncher, or a defensive-minded baseliner.

Group tennis lessons

Group tennis lessons are known to be more general in nature because they are shared with several other trainees of the same standards or calibers. A typical group tennis lesson tends to include three to ten trainees in a single court and a coach, depending on the price of the lesson.

The following are some of the advantages of enrolling in a group tennis lesson.

  • General drills:
Usually, these lessons tend to last for about a couple of hours as there are many trainees learning at the same time. The main idea is to train a group of players with similar standards together and push them to help each other to get better with the help of some general drills.
  • Physical conditioning:
Another benefit of group tennis lessons is that they emphasize heavily on the physical conditioning of the trainees as well. For the final fifteen or twenty minutes of the lesson, coaches tend to focus on physical conditioning such as static exercises so as to make them stronger athletes with more stamina. This would help them reach more balls during tougher tennis matches.

Now that you have an idea about both types of tennis lessons, it is in your hands to choose the right type of lesson for your child. Determine their goal, strength, and preferences, and pick the kind of tennis lesson in a top tennis academy that they feel comfortable in.
